Mr. Dahal set out for United States for attending the 63^rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Sept, 20^th 2008. He urged UN to deal with the issues of Least Developed Countries separately, considering their peculiar nature. He assured the world body that Nepal is committed to protecting and promoting the human rights of its people under all circumstances. He lauded the UN for establishing its regional centre for Peace and Disarmament in Kathmandu.

Meanwhile he justified the 10 years armed struggle launched by his party in 1996 and said it waged the movement for liberation of the common man from the clutches of age-old suppression, deprivation, marginalization and out right negligence by the then existing polity.
